After so much hype, promotion, and rumors, THE NEW STAR WARS FILM IS HERE!!! And just like any guy who has seen every single movie in the epic saga that has transcended film and is considered part of culture and history, I was so excited and nervous as to how this new movie would pan out.
The new leads (Daisy Ridley and John Boyega) were curious choices, but after seeing them in action, I can see why they were cast. They brought a new dynamic into something so iconic. The introduction of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) as the new big bad Sith guy is exciting. (Watch for that reveal in the movie, if you want to know understand why it’s exciting and sad at the same time.)
The movie also brings back our favorite original characters Han Solo, Chewbacca, Leia Organa, C3-PO, R2-D2, and Luke Skywalker (I admit, I read the rumor mill for info about the movie). Even our favorite ship, the Millenium Falcon makes an appearance.
The main thing about the movie, if you look at it carefully, it pays homage to its predecessors, especially Episode IV: A New Hope. It follows the same story line, aside from some simple alterations here and there. Overall, they are identical in many ways.
I understand that the expectations for the movie are so high, considering what we all had to go through with Jar Jar Binks and the prequel trilogy. Also taking into account director J.J. Abrams, his work on Star Trek and Star Trek: Into Darkness, has really put a lot of pressure on him to execute this movie in a way that it appeases Star Wars fans. However, the fans of Star Wars are hard to please.
I do ask for consideration from my fellow fans. The movie is good, and please do not assume that it will automatically ruin the franchise. Look at it like a silver lining, at least we have a lot to look forward to in the upcoming movies and spin-offs in the coming years. And if that isn’t enough, just admire how cute BB-8 is.
