Kata Box review

My wife and I were able to get the new Kata Box the other night from the Kata Kiosk in SM Southmall. After having it and using it, I am writing a review about this neat little gadget that can do it. Let’s begin!

Look:

The look of the Kata Box is sleek. It’s tiny square box that has the company’s logo right smack in the middle. The logo however doesn’t take away anything from the simplistic vibe the Kata Box shows off.

To put into perspective for you, here is a picture of the Kata Box next to my 2TB External HDD.Β Note: the Kata Box is only 107mm x 107mm x 25mm.

See? It’s so small that you can actually take it anywhere you. Now isn’t that just dandy?

External Features

The Kata Box features an external MicroSD slot to help increase its memory space, it also has 2 USB slots, a MicroSD slot, a LAN port, an HDMI port, DC-IN, and an AV Output. Additionally, the Kata Box comes with a remote and a gaming controller. All these actually help improve the box’s portability feature as you can just plug it into any TV and it can just work.

Through its two USB slots, you can actually turn it into a media player by plugging in your files through USBs and HDDs. But because the gaming controller takes up USB slot, you’re only left with one extra. Fear not, as the Kata Box is compatible with port hubs so that solves the issue right away. With today’s advanced TVs, it’s best to use an HDMI cable with the box to maximize the HD quality videos and games you may have.

Internal Features

The Kata Box boasts an Amlogic S805 Quad core 1.5GHz, with 1 GB RAM and 8 GB ROM (this is where the MicroSD slot comes in handy), Mali-450, WiFi Connectivity, and it runs on Android KitKat 4.4.

Overall performance of the box has been very pleasing for my wife and I. We haven’t experienced any lags, the graphics are crystal clear, and the shift between apps is fast. As it is an Android device, you can download apps that will help you in the long haul. Just login to your Google Play account and download away, but keep in mind that most apps are designed for touch screens. It is also best that you have an internet speed of 3mbps or higher to fully utilize the box.

Overall

Personally, I think this is a genius device for those who want to turn their current TVs Β into a smart TV without having to shell out huge amounts of money. With pre-loaded apps like YouTube, FireFox, and WPS, any screen you own can be turned into a computer instantaneously.

It is also advisable to buy a wireless mouse and keyboard as it will greatly enhance the user interface and experience with the box. Especially if you are planning on using it as a desktop alternative.

All in all, this one device that every household should have in my opinion as it is helpful and appealing to all members of the family. (4.8 out of 5 stars.)

SRP is 2,999 Php, and it can be purchased at any Kata store or kiosk.
